Scones

traditional

1½ c butter, cut into chunks

½ c sugar

1 egg

1¼ c buttermilk

2 tsp baking powder

4 c flour

½ tsp soda

Preheat oven to 425°, line baking sheet with parchment. In food processor add flour, sugar, powder and soda, blend briefly.  Add butter and pulse to make a coarse grainy mixture.  Put mixture in a bowl, make a well in center.  Add egg and most of buttermilk.  Stir lightly with fork to blend.  Add remaining buttermilk if needed to make a soft dough.  Turn mixture onto a floured surface and knead 8 -10 times.  Pat out to 1 inch thickness, cut into 3 inch wedges.  Place on baking sheet.  Brush tops with milk.  Bake 12-15 minutes.
